2006 International Student Essay Winners

 
    

The International Student Essay Contest was a huge success! Thank you to all who participated. The judging panel -which included staff members from across the campus community- really enjoyed reading all of the essays and felt they learned a great deal about the experiences of international students. As a result, it was extremely difficult to choose the winners.

The winners are:

First Place: Andrea Cisneros (left)

Andrea Cisneros, from Mexico City, Mexico, is a Ph.D. student in the Food Science department (Food Chemistry program). She has been in the U.S. and Madison since January 2003 and is planning to stay here for at least one more year.

Second Place: Evgenia Fotiou

Evgenia Fotiou is from Greece, and she is a Ph.D. student in the Cultural Anthropology department. She has lived in Madison for four and a half years and expects to be here for another couple of years.

Third Place: Ana Tapsieva

Ana Tapsieva was born in Norilsk, Russia, but her family currently lives in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She is working towards a Masters degree in Soil Science. Ana came to the U.S. in August 2001 to study at a private college in New Jersey. She then transferred to UW-Madison in the fall of 2002 as a sophomore. She feels that Madison is hard to leave. After getting her Bachelors, she stayed on for a Masters. Ana is planning on finishing her degree in 2008.

Fourth Place: Daisy Du

As a first-year Ph.D. candidate in the East Asian Language and Literature department, Daisy Du is interested in modern Chinese literature and comparative literature. She is from Singapore and China and will stay in Madison for up to five years.

Fifth Place: Royston Sim

Royston Sim is from Singapore, and he intends to pursue his undergraduate degree in journalism. Royston has been in the U.S. and Madison for one semester and hopes to graduate in two and a half years' time.
