The Millennium Development Goals Awareness Project is designed to raise awareness of the eight U.N. Millennium Development Goals on the UW-Madison campus and to connect students with relevant research, internship and volunteer opportunities in order to promote the development of job skills, foster global competency, and advance the goals locally, nationally, and internationally. The project is coordinated by International Student Services. More about us...

WHAT ARE THE MDGs?

MDGAP COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING

MDGAP organized two exciting and well-received Community Service Learning Day events to provide UW international students with high-impact hands-on experience in relation to the eight Millennium Development Goals. The two events were on October 22 and April 13 at the Second Harvest Foodbank (experience related to Goal 1) and the Farley Center for Peace, Justice and Environmental Sustainability (experience related to Goal 7) respectfully. Guided by Second Harvest Foodbank and  Farley Center staff, MDGAP volunteers had the opportunity to discuss, reflect and explore together the meaning of hunger, poverty eradication, environmental justice and sustainability in local context and the different pathways our community is developing to cope with and solve these problems.More community service events photos can be viewed here and here:

STUDENTS REFLECT ON UN EXPERIENCES

Under the leadership of International Student Services Advisors, UW students visited the United Nations in New York over spring break of 2012 and 2013. While there, they toured UN Headquarters, met with representatives of UN agencies, Ambassador Offices, and a non-governmental organization, attended a briefing on human trafficking opened by Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, and volunteered at a local non-profit organizations. Their unique insights and experiences may be found here.
