English Classes (Students)
Volunteers with teaching experience in the field of ESL lead small classes during the fall and spring semesters for international students, scholars, and their relatives or friends.
Classes emphasize conversation and practical help on everyday living in America.
Students are placed according to their skill in English. A parent/child class is also offered for parents with children age 2 or younger.
All classes meet at the First Baptist Church, 518 N. Franklin Avenue (near University Avenue on Madison’s near west side). The church allows the program to use its facility but there is no religious connection between the classes and the church.
Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Wednesday later afternoon. In addition to conversation classes, the program offers one writing class. Most conversation classes meet twice per week. Writing is held once per week. The registration fee for a class that meets twice per week is $60. The fee for a class that meets once per week is $30.
