English Classes (Students)
Volunteers with teaching experience in the field of ESL lead small classes during the fall and spring semesters for international students, scholars, and their relatives or friends.
Classes emphasize conversation with grammar and practical help on everyday living in America.
Students are placed according to their skill in English. A parent/child class is also offered for parents with children age 2 or younger.
The classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 518 N. Franklin Ave (behind Spirit Gas Station, 2801 University Avenue - use entrance closest to parking lot). The cost is $60 per semester. The fee covers the instruction and the cost of class materials. For some classes, there is a textbook purchase or rental fee.
Note: The program offers some evening instruction and summer conversation opportunities, as needed. Email for more information.
The church allows the classes to use its facility but there is no religious connection between the classes and the church.
