Furniture Program (Volunteers)
The furniture loan program helps new international students and scholars who have just arrived in Madison and need furniture.
The storage garage, donated by Dale Heights Presbyterian Church (which plays no other role in the furniture program) is behind the church at 5501 University Avenue, and is open to students and donors the first Saturday of each month from 11:30-12:30, except December, January, June and July. Open ALSO the last 2 Saturdays of August and the first Saturday in September, 9-12:30 AM.
This year Furniture Program OPEN HOUSEs are on Saturdays, August 18, 25, and September 1, from 9 - 12:30, 2012. A good number of students will show up, who had no previous contact with MFIS. This is a chance for an MFIS volunteer member and potential host to get to know students. At the same time the member could help with furniture selection, explaining things, maybe even help with delivery, which is the biggest bottleneck during move-in time. So come, look, chat, talk, explain, and help. (As always, I encourage newly arrived students to call me for an appointment before the Open House days.)
Students and donors are encouraged to find their own transportation for moving the furniture, but often delivery can be arranged. Click here for a map of the Furniture Storage Place. For more information email the MFIS office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
